We have a long tradition of living in a joint family were all brothers with their wives and children live in the parental house along with the elderly parents. There was time when all the family members would sit together, chit chat with each other, make tea and snack and watch serials like Chitrahaar (a popular musical show in the 80s on national television) together. But with the changing times, the joint family is on the path of disintegration. We have entered in the age of technological advancement and the role reversal and thus interdependence on each other has changed to independence.
Living under the one roof was once considered to be helpful in developing better bonding among members of the family but now the newly married couples are moving away from their in-laws and relatives in order to maintain their space and avoid intrusion of others in their marital life. When we live together we share problems and happiness together which bring us closer. Well whatever the combination is, it has some pros and cons and so is with the joint family. But living in a joint family is more than sharing.
A harmonious joint family is a boon in developing better bonding among its members. People in the joint family live, eat and share their thoughts with each other which help in better understanding among each other. After sharing thoughts, a person feels more comfortable. A research says that people living in joint family lives more.
