A joint family helps in the development of individual’s mind, thought process, and ethics. The children in a joint family are guided by the elders who inculcate values like obedience, sympathy, sacrifice, and selflessness.
The children living in a joint family are more social as they get more interacting environment. Also, under the strict surveillance of the grandparents the children are kept safe from the ill-doings and develop as a better socialist person rather than being aggressive and self-centric individual.
The main advantage of living in a joint is that a joint family is more economical. The members of the joint family cook together and thus the things are procured jointly which saves money and time. And the food comes out with enhanced and delicious taste
Disadvantages of living in a joint family
Less space: Since, people live together there is less space for individuals as well as married couples. At many times, it has been seen that there is too much intrusion in the lives of newlywed married couples that they fail to develop intimacy which results in frustration.
Disputes: If a joint family is not harmonious disputes can happen on petty issues to larger issues like the property.
Orthodox Attitude: In a joint family a lot of importance is given to the traditional and religious practices. The older generation tends to lay down the rules in autocratic manner and wants the younger ones to follow then. However, the younger generation who has seen the change in the society finds it difficult to adapt those rules.
